Pune, Dec 8, (The Press Watch) – “India is the centre for knowledge since decades. We have the educational heritage from Takshashila to Nalanda. The students should use their intellectual property to preserve the heritage of the nation and utilize it in construction of the nation”, appealed Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu.
He was speaking during the 16th convocation ceremony of Symbiosis International deemed University in Lavale. Governor Mr Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Chancellor of University S B Mujumdar, Vice- Chancellor Rajni Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Principal Director Vidya Yeravdekar, Registrar MG Shejul were also present during the ceremony.
Speaking further Vice president Venkaiah Naidu said there are no barriers of cast, gender, language and nation for seeking knowledge. He said that due to education, the doors of opportunities in the entire world are opened. Education makes one aware of responsibilities. Our nation has rich heritage of education right since Takshashila to Nalanda. Students from the entire Asian continent visit India for education. The legacy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is been taken ahead by the Symbiosis University. Students from various parts of the world come here for pursuing quality education and this is a matter of pride, he added.
The vice president further said that Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra. Great personalities like justice Ranade, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Gopal Ganesh Agarkar, Lokmanya Tilak, Vasudev Balwant Phadke had close relation with Pune. Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar were also associated with Pune.
The meritorious students of the university were conferred degrees at the hands of the Vice-president. Famous writer Javed Akhtar and scientist Dr Tessy Thomas were bestowed on honorary doctorate during the program. Javed Akhtar and Dr. Tessy Thomas also spoke on the occasion. Introductory speech of the program was delivered by Dr S B Mujumdar. Pro Vice-Chancellor and principal Director Vidya Yeravdekar proposed the vote of thanks. The vice president planted trees in the premises of the University after the program. Prominent personalities from various fields, teachers and students were present in large number.
