Nagpur, 25 Sep (The Press Watch) – The Shree Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, nicknamed as Balewadi Stadium should not be used for any type of election work, unless and until in emergency or if any other options are not available to Election Commission orders Nagpur High Court.
An order regarding this has been issued by Nagpur High Court marking States Chief Electoral Officer, all the District collectors and Commissioners of sports and Youth Services. Which states sports events must be preferred first before election work.
A PIL (Public Interest Litigation) was presented in Nagpur High court on December 2017 complaining that the badminton hall of Balewadi Stadium is used for vote counting work which harms the Game and Planning of Badminton players and sports personalities.
Due to the election work the hall was booked for 2 months which caused loss to sports personalities postponing the events and matches. Which ruined their hardwork and preparation.
The main aim of Sports stadiums are to provide a platform to the players first and then to other events. And so the Nagpur High Court has orderd States Chief Electoral Officer, all the District collectors and Commissioners of sports and Youth Services of state that they must lookout for the options first. And then only allot the Balewadi Stadium for election work that to for short duration.
Now ahead of State Assembly Elections this order has disturbed the election commission and they are in search of other optional space.
As Balewadi Stadium was mostly used as hotroom for keeping EVM and for result declaration during loksabha and State Assembly elections which might not be used now.
